I have been blogging a whole three days and I'm already realizing that typing my thoughts on a keyboard isn't exactly my cup of tea. Will I adapt? A few years ago (okay, 8 years ago) I had my handwriting made into a font so I could work a little faster. Can I just say: yuck. Not for me. I like pens. I like paper. I like sitting on my bed with a big, sturdy book for a desk. (For the record, I don't do all my work while sitting on my bed. Most of it is done hunkered down in my studio. Really.)
We have the smallest bedroom in our very old house, but there's a bay window and this time of year the view can't be beat. We're perched on a hill in the city and I still get to see all the trees waking up in the Mississippi River valley. Spring is a little late this year. I am crossing my fingers that will mean I can actually enjoy the lilacs for a change. (Their bloom coincides with the National Stationery Show every year.) The show starts Sunday and the buds on my lilac bushes are still tiny and dark.
In college I used to tape quotes to my door, e.e. cummings was a favorite in 1986:
i thank you god for most this amazing day
for leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky
Here's to you, spring, lilacs, pens, paper, and beautiful views.
