I highly recommend hanging an inspiring quote where you can see it every day. Twenty years ago I was teaching elementary school, then I had a string of secretarial jobs for a few years while my creative aspirations were percolating. I used to have a quote on my desk:
Endure and preserve yourself for better things. (Virgil)
I can still see it. The blue-green leaves, the pinky-red polka dots, the glitter. It's around here somewhere. When we moved to our first house and I was working at Dreamland part-time, I had this one on my bulletin board:
As you know, I have quotes painted on the walls of my home and studio. These little ones are the more personal quotes that speak to me and my daily life. Currently I have the following:
Maybe if I read these often enough they will sink in? The first is a reminder I sorely need, the second sums up my philosophy in a nutshell. (However, the cynic in me says: John Muir was a conservationist; he created lasting beauty. I make stationery.) Thus the reason to keep quotes where I can see them, read them, ponder them daily.
