If you're a regular reader of my blog, you already know that I support the Rice Dinner Project. The concept is perfectly simple: once a month eat only rice for dinner, and donate what you would have spent on a bigger meal to a hunger relief charity. (We support Feed My Starving Children.) After a few nights of, "What's for dessert?" my kids got it. Easy peasy.
The giveaway: 12 "rice dinner" stickers for your calendar + 12 envelopes handlettered with your return address (for mailing in your donation...or just about anything else you want to send in a pretty envelope!). I confess that some months are so jam-packed I forget all about rice dinner, so I'm making a set of these for myself too!

The wool afghan my Mom made me 24 years ago...I was married on May 25th, 1985 and for a bridal shower gift my Mom presented me with a handmade wool irish knit afghan. I love it then and I love it now! I had seen one and mentioned to her that I liked it. So on the day of my shower my best present was that afghan from my Mom. As I opened it and saw the detail and beauty and knew that it had taken her countless hours to make it, tears welled up in my eyes. Today, 24 years later, it still holds a precious spot in my family room. When I am doing my weekly dusting and walk past it, I remember. When I am cold at night while watching tv and cover myself, I remember. When my dog, tore a hole in it and I was upset, I remembered. When my Mom came for a visit and easily repaired the hole, I remembered. That afghan is a daily remembrance that I am loved by my Mom.

Every morning I pack a home lunch for my kids. Every morning I put in a container of water or chocolate milk or juice. Every morning I wish I had a better bottle. Something just the right size, liquid-tight, with no plastic-ickiness.
Walked to the coop with my little guy on Saturday, happened to walk past the water bottle shelf...and found these perfect bottles. They even had purple for my girl.
This morning I packed nachos: a little container of tortilla chips, a little container of salsa, a little container of cheese dip, a little container of guacamole. And an awesome bottle of juice.
I'll admit it: I've been longing for Fiestaware luncheon plates for quite awhile now and my glee at finally finding some was substantial. And as a bonus, I've added setting the table to the chore chart. Kitchen bliss.

I have also been bursting with ideas for blog content once I'm past Recipe Repertoire (only seven weekdays to go!). And spring has definitely been in the air around here, nevermind last night's snowfall. So if recipes are not your thing, come back in March for more inspiration, more projects, more scrapbooking, more sewing. (And more recipes...I still want to get to 50.)

I love this idea from Jeffrey Yamaguchi's 52 Projects: the next time you have a party, take a photo of the same spot before, during, and after.
I chose a spot on the front porch and took this photo before our first Tuesday night potluck last summer. Then, each Tuesday I took a photo of whoever happened to be sitting there during the evening.
I couldn't really take an after photo, as our guests were thoughtfully tidy!
